Google Draw

I have been using Google Draw with students in 3rd grade.  I am impressed with the variety of uses for the tool and students have really enjoyed showing what they know.  Third graders started the year out exploring the tools in Google Draw by creating All About Me Posters.  The next project was to create digital citizenship posters.   After creating the Google Drawings, students uploaded the drawings into VoiceThread to create a class presentation on digital citizenship.

Earlier this month, I offered students some time to free draw with Google Drawing.

Students just finished a unit on fractions so we used
Google Drawing to show what they know about fractions.

As we have been creating all of these great drawings, students have been thinking deeply about how their cursor helps them to problem solve while they draw.  I am thrilled with the thinking they are doing.
This week a student said,

"Mrs. Eckstein, I don't have to ask for help... I know why I can't type in the text box.  I don't have an I-beam cursor, so I bet I made a rectangle shape not a text box."
I'm so excited that they are starting to problem solve -- way to go third graders!
