Summer Reading

Every summer I read a collection of books which are being considered for the Texas Association for Gifted Legacy awards.      The books I am reviewing this year include:
  • Bright Not Broken: Gifted Kids, ADHD, and Autism | Buy This Title | byDiane M. Kennedy, Rebecca S. Banks, Temple Grandin | Jossey-Bass
  • Envision, Career Aspiration | Buy This Title | byMelanie L. Bondy, edited by Shanda Blue Easterday, MFA, Ph.D. | Mind Vine Press
  • Identifying Gifted Students, 2nd ed. : A Practical Guide | Buy This Title | bySusan K. Johnsen Ph.D. | Prufrock Press
  • Teacher's Survival Guide: Gifted Education | Buy This Title | byJulia L. Roberts Ed.D., Julia Roberts Boggess | Prufrock Press
  • Teaching Advanced Learners in the General Education Classroom: Doing More With Less! |    Buy This Title | byJoan Smutny | Corwin Press
This summer the books are excellent.  I found Teaching Advanced Learners in the General Education Classroom: Doing More With Less! particularly outstanding.  Joan Smutny does a great job of providing research based strategies that easy to implement in any general education classroom.  I look forward to sharing this resource with teachers in my building in the fall. I would highly recommend the Teacher's Survival Guide: Gifted Education for teachers new to gifted education.  This is a great gifted 101 book giving some basic, easy to read, information on gifted learners.  Bright Not Broken: Gifted Kids, ADHD, and Autism is a fantastic resource for teachers and parents with twice exceptional students.  This often misunderstood population is given a voice through this resource.

I look forward to seeing who wins the Legacy Awards this year.  It will definately be a difficult choice.
